SRINAGAR, June 25: A high level meeting of the officers of Social Welfare Department was today held at SKICC to review the results of various welfare schemes under implementation for upliftment and development of women and child by the Centre and State Governments in the State.
The meeting was chaired by the Union Minister for Women and Child Development (Independent Charge), Krishna Tirath.
Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo and Chief Secretary Madhav Lal were present in the meeting.
While reviewing the present status of various schemes like Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent girls (RGSEAG-SABLA), Indra Gandhi Matrivta Sahyog Yojna (IGMSY) Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS), ICDS training programme (STRAP), the Minister said the implementation of Rajiv Gandhi National Crèche, Family Counselling Centres and awareness generating programmes have yielded good results and would be further broad base. She said that demand of the State for setting up 10,000 Anganwari Centres in uncovered and far-flung areas of the State and recruitment of one more additional Anganwardi worker in each existing Anganwari Centre is under active consideration. She said this step will further universalize the ICDS network by extending coverage to the uncovered areas of the State especially in Ladakh, Kargil and far-flung areas of Rajouri-Poonch and Kashmir.
Expressing her satisfaction over the implementation of (RGSEAG) SABLA, the Union Minister assured the State Government for taking more steps for empowering the adolescent girls through self development and improve their health status by providing nutrition, diet, awareness about health hygiene nutrition, ARSH and family childcare. She stressed for strict implementation of these schemes on the ground level and said that ultimate goal of launching these schemes was to empower women socially, economically and educationally.
She also said that Centre is actively considering strict action against the rapists and other criminals relating to women discrimination. She further said that by providing skill development training to women, they will be able to get jobs and stand on their own legs by generating employment. She said that Central government has already enhanced an honorarium of Anganwari workers from Rs.1500 to Rs.3000 so that they may be economically sound.
Earlier the Minister for Social Welfare gave a detailed account about the implementation of the schemes throughout the State.
Ms. Sakina requested the Union Minister for funding under the supplementary nutrition on 90-100 ratio instead of existing 50:50 share basis so that the people may be benefitted from the scheme.
The meeting was attended by Chairperson Social Welfare Board, Khem Lata Wakhloo Secretary SWD, Gaznaffar Hussain, Special Secretary Planning M H. Malik, Director, National Mission for Women Empowerment, Rashmi Singh, Directors Social Welfare Kashmir/Jammu and other senior officers of the department.
