Unheard voice of Zanskar

Sir,
The PM Narendra Modi led NDA Government came into power with the promise of equal development of all sections of society. With this ‘vishwas’ (trust), we the people of Zanskar collectively voted for the BJP. We hoped that our very genuine and longstanding demand for district wukk be fulfilled. We people have been suffering for years with no proper road connectivity, communication networks, health facilities and educational institutions. I hope that the trust of Zanskar will be kept alive!
Zanskar is one of the most backward and remote regions located in the Kargil district of UT Ladakh. It remains intermittently cut off from all sources of communication. Although, Zanskar covers the major portion of Kargil district, it somehow remained unnoticed and neglected so far.
In an era where 4G networks are made available throughout the country, Wi-Fi broadband is being provided under the “Bharat Net “ scheme to all the panchayat and PM Modi’s vision of Digital India. Zanskar, is yet to get its basic network connection. In this digital age where everything is made available through internet, we face a lot of problems. We can’t contact our parents and we are worried about their health and conditions. The only BSNL network available in Zanskar remains non functional most of the time.
We remain inaccessible to basic health facilities in winter. People, particularly women suffer from major health issues due to basic health and network facilities. The Prime minister under ‘Ayushman Bharat Jan Aarogya Yojana ‘ has promised universal health coverage for all. Here in Zanskar, we only have one hospital which too becomes inconvenient for the people in winter due to the distances. The hospital, anyway, has a few doctors, nurses but lacks basic tools and medications. We are thankful to the volunteer doctors who come all the way from Europe and provide us free medical check up every summer. Finally, leaders and representatives are elected by the people, for the people and they must be held responsible to the people. We will not tolerate the unaccountable leader who have failed to fulfill our very basic rights. We are not demanding for and we don’t want a major rapid development. What we want is a sustainable development that coexist with the peaceful and clear environment of the region. And we want our basic necessities to be fulfilled!
Lobzang bodhi
Sani, Zanskar
