Unemployed Engineers take up issues with Advisor

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Aug 28: All Unemployed Engineers Association Jammu led by its President Sheraz Ahmad Malik met Advisor to Governor Khurshid Ahmed Ganai and submitted a memorandum of demands.
While speaking, Malik apprised Advisor about the problems being faced by unemployed Engineers. Malik said that various posts of engineers are lying vacant in different department and even after the promotions of Junior Engineers as Assistant Engineers, the former are holding the charge of Junior Engineers due to non reference of posts to the selection authority for the reasons best known to them.
Malik said that being qualified Engineers they are waiting for the advertisement of the posts since long, but nothing has been done till date.
“Even in MGNREGA, the department of RDD is not advertising the posts of Engineers and if they advertise the posts, the department selects the Engineers having reference of the influential persons”, he said, adding that the vacancies created due to the retirements are also not being advertised and no selections have been made against these vacancies till date.
He said that in case of Electrical Engineering, there are around 6 major power projects running in J&K and there is hardly any engineer deputed or selected in these projects, who hails from J&K, adding that in case of Civil Engineering, sufficient seats are lying vacant in PWD R&B, I&FC, PHE, RDD and Tourism Department, but are not advertised till date.
“For the past over 5 years, there is no vacancy of Mechanical Engineers referred to JKSSB and even to GAD as there are numbers of posts lying vacant in almost all the departments”, he stated.
“Incase of Electronic and Communication/Electrical Engineers and Computer Engineering, various posts are also lying vacant and not filled till date”, he added.
He appealed to the Advisor to kindly intervene into the matter and take legal action against the officials for not referring of these posts to the selection authority. He also appealed to the Advisor to save the future of the unemployed Engineers as many of them are getting over-aged.
Advisor gave patient hearing to the issues and assured redressal.
