JAMMU, Dec 28: The underground pathway near Super Speciality Hospital (SSH), connecting BC Road near PHE Complex has been totally encroached upon by some people, causing  inconvenience to the general public.
Under the nose of Jammu Municipal Corporation, this entire patch from BC Road near Trikuta Complex up to SSH has been grabbed by about a dozen Rehari Wallas and others, who are paying hefty amount to some cops and also to the goons operating from Trikuta complex. This underground pathway is full of filth and garbage and there is no monitoring by the JMC staff. There are heaps of garbage lying unattended  for weeks and months and the passers-by  generally cross this area by putting cloth on their mouth and nose.
The JMC never bothered to install lights there and many incidents of chain snatching of women and loot  have taken place there several times.  The people using this track,  always face inconvenience due to illegal encroachment by some people who are paying money ranging from Rs 8000 to Rs 10,000 per month to the mafia men and also a handsome share to the concerned cops.
For weeks together, nobody lifts  garbage from there  and  JMC has no monitoring system there.  The general public has appealed to the DyCM  and the Commissioner, JMC Ramesh Kumar to clear this underground pathway, install lights there for the  safety of fair sex and break the nexus of mafia and police who are sharing the booty. A senior JMC officer when contacted claimed that JMC would clear the entire patch and also install lights for the safety of the women and deploy regular staff for cleanliness there. He said people urinate there and this menace is needed to be checked strictly.
