United Nations, Mar 7: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned a shooting attack in Afghan capital Kabul that claimed lives of 31 people.
The attack, which took place at a commemoration of the death anniversary of politician Abdul Ali Mazari, killed at least 31 people, including 29 civilians, and wounded 55 others.
The UN chief has expressed his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Afghanistan, Spokesman for the Secretary-General Stphane Dujarric said.
“The secretary-general reiterates that attacks against civilians are unacceptable and those who carry out such crimes must be held accountable” he said adding that the United Nations stands with all Afghans in solidarity and remains committed to an Afghan-led peace process that will end the conflict.
For its part, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) also condemned the attack, with the secretary-general’s special representative, Tadamichi Yamamoto, stressing that those who organized and enabled this deliberate attack on civilians must be brought to justice.
