UGC refresher course begins in Deptt of Biotechnology

JAMMU, Mar 6: Three week refresher course in Biotechnology, being organized by Human Resource Development Centre- University of Jammu, in collaboration with the School of Biotechnology, commenced here today.
The refresher course was formally inaugurated by Prof R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, JU, in presence of Prof Geeta Sumbli, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences; Prof Naresh Padha, Director, HRDC; Prof Jyoti Vakhlu, Director, School of Biotechnology and Ranjit Kalra, Assistant Director, HRDC.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor called upon the teachers to keep working hard in pursuit of acquiring knowledge through research and training. He also flagged off many important issues for the participating teachers to deliberate upon during the three week refresher course. From his vide experience as an academician and as a researcher, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the role of teacher in higher education is not only to transmit education but also to generate and assimilate it.
Earlier, Prof Jyoti Vakhlu, Director, School of Biotechnology and the course coordinator, in her address, gave a detailed briefing with regard to contours and the area of study that would be touched upon in the three week refresher course.
Prof Naresh Padha, Director, HRDC, outlined the activities of HRDC and the various new programmes that were initiated in the current academic year.
Prof Geeta Sumbli, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences, while addressing the participants, advised the coordinator and teachers to lay more stress on practical training so that the teachers could demonstrate theoretical concepts to students practically.
Ranjit Kalra, Assistant Director, HRDC presented formal vote of thanks.
Among others present on the occasion, including Prof Anil K Raina, Prof Rajkumar Rampal, Prof Namrata Sharma, Dr Neeraj Sharma, Dr Veenu Koul, Dr B K Bajaj (Deputy Coordinator) and faculty members of the School.
