Udhampur official attends World Bank Assembly

JAMMU, July 5: Padam Singh, who belongs to village Dhanu of Udhampur district, and presently working with the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance was deputed to represent Government of India at the 23rd General Assembly and related events of the World Savings and Retail Banking Institute (WSBI) held recently at Bangkok, Thailand. WSBI is a multilateral world body having around 125 members across 80 countries of the world with its headquarters at Brussels (Belgium). Around 300 policy leaders, economists and technology experts from across the globe attended the meeting.
India being on the Board of Directors of the world body, Singh represented India on the Board of Directors meeting on and later attended the meeting of the General Assembly followed by Annual Meeting of the WSBI.
He  also participated in the roundtable conference, which was attended by a select group of only 10 experts to deliberate on setting up three working Groups on  Remittances, Rural Financial Inclusion and Advocacy.
During his stay at Bangkok, Padam Singh had one-to-one interactions with experts as well as policy leaders of various countries including the President of the Government Savings Bank of Thailand with a view to explore the possibilities of cooperation in areas critical from the Indian perspective.
He also had one-to-one interactions with officials of the WSBI including its Managing Director, Chris De Noose and discussed policy issues.
