KATHUA, Dec 4: The police seized two trucks loaded with 18 bovine animals and arrested four persons in this connection from Kathua and Ramgarh area of Samba today.
A police spokesman said that a naka party from Hatli Police Post (Kathua) near Maggar Khud on National Highway intercepted a truck bearing registration number, JK02AW/ 0828. The driver of the truck did not stop and tried to escape by breaking the barrier early today. But after hot chase, the police party managed to seize the vehicle and arrested driver and his associate.
The police found 15 bovine animals loaded in the vehicle and two of them were dead. The poor animals were packed like bundles and some of them were finding it difficult to breath being packed tightly and lying down on the floor of the vehicle while others were mounted on them. The two dead animals were later disposed off by police.
The police seized the truck and arrested both the occupants. They were identified as Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Aslam, resident of Finder in R S Pura and Ali Mohd, son of Munnu, resident of Chhan Charkhri in Hiranagar. A case was registered against them for cruelty against animals, 188 RPC and 2/3 Prevention of Public Damage Property Act.
Meanwhile, Ramgarh police in district Samba today intercepted a Mohindra load carrier/ mini truck ( JK02AG/9199) and seized it along with three bovine animals. Two persons including truck driver were arrested in this connection. They were identified as driver Gurmeet Lal, son of Thoru Ram and Pritam Lal, both residents of R S Pura. The police registered a case against them.
