Two toddlers among 6 killed, 6 injured in NH mishap

SAMBA, May 25: Six persons including two toddlers were killed and six others got injured, when their Innova car in which they were traveling in, hit a parapet at Tapyal area on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, here today. However, there was a miraculous escape for one of the traveler, who escaped unhurt in the accident
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number DL4CAE-6465 was on its way from Kashmir to Gurdaspur in Punjab, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it collided with parapet at Tapyal area on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in district Samba at around 2 am. The collision was so potent, that four persons died on the spot and 6 others got injured.
The deceased and injured persons were on their way to Gurdaspur from Kashmir to attend a function of a person, who escaped unhurt in the accident.
After getting information, a team from Police Station Ghagwal led by SHO Bansi Lal Sharma rushed to the spot and started operation to rescue the injured persons.
All the injured persons were shifted to Accidental Hospital Ghagwal in police and other vehicles and were later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu, where two toddlers aged around 2 months and one year breathed their last, thereby raising the death toll to six.
All the injured persons admitted in GMCH Jammu were responding to the treatment, when last reports were compiled.
The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Labpreet Singh (driver), son of Sandu Singh, Punnu (23), wife of Atras Singh, Veena, wife of Ram Paul, Geeta Devi (60), wife of Kashmira Lal , two months old baby of Neetu, wife of Rahul and one-year-old boy Yasin Masih, son of Atras Singh, all residents of Gurdaspur and were working as labourer in Kashmir.
The injured have been identified as Rahul, son of Kashmira Lal, his wife Neetu and their 2-year-old child, Atras Singh (24), son of Vijay Masih, Raju (30), son of Yousuf Masih and Roop Singh (45), son of Sohan Singh, all residents of Gurdadpur, presently working as labourers in Kashmir.
There was a miraculous escape for a traveler identified as Monu, son of Rampal, a resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab, who escaped unhurt in the accident.
After completing medical and legal formalities, the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their family members for last rites.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Ghagwal Police Station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed shock and grief over the death of six persons in this accident. She has conveyed her sympathies to the families of those killed and prayed for their eternal solace.
