Srinagar : Two soldiers including an officer of Army and two militants were killed in separate gun battles in South Kashmir early today.
A joint team of Army and Police launched a cordon and search operation at village Matribugh, Zoipora in Shopian district of South Kashmir following a tip off about the presence of some militants.
The militants hiding in the area opened fire triggering off an encounter in which an army Major along with two soldiers sustained bullet injuries.
Two soldiers including an officer later succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
Defence spokesman, Col Rajesh Kalia said that two militants were killed in a brief gunfight with security forces in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district early today.
Army and Police had laid an ambush at Gopalpora village in Kulgam district of South Kashmir following a tip off about the movement of some militants in the area.
The militants were challenged leading to an encounter in which two militants were killed.
