JAMMU, Nov 14: Army and police today destroyed two hideouts of the militants in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri and recovered a large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives.
Official sources said a joint team of SOG Poonch and 38 Rashtriya Rifles destroyed a hideout of the militants at village Sangiot under the jurisdiction of Gursai police station in Poonch district.
Recoveries made from the hideout included one IED weighing four kg, one AK-56 rifle with three magazines, one wireless set, one pistol with one magazine, 210 rounds of AK-56, one pouch and a Khan dress.
The operation was executed under the supervision of SSP Poonch Jatinder Singh Johar.
Another hideout was destroyed by 163 Territorial Army and police at Nila forests in Kotranka tehsil of Budhal in Rajouri district.
Recoveries made from the hideout included one AK-56 rifle with one magazine and 41 bullets, three bullets of 7.62 mm SLR and three Chinese grenades.
The militants have suffered major setback with the recovery of weaponry from two hideouts in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
Sources didn’t rule out the possibility of militants planning to carry out terror strikes using arms and ammunition during the elections.
