Two killed, one injured as truck turns turtle

JAMMU, Jan 7: Two persons were killed on the spot and another was injured when a truck turned turtle and fell on them in Narwal area of city outskirts today.
The deceased have been identified as Pawan Kumar (40) son of Uday Chand, a resident of Chowki Choura (Akhnoor) and Mohinder Singh (55) son of Ganesh Singh, a resident of Gurkha Nagar, Jammu while the injured has been identified as Deedar Singh (60) son of Aftar Singh of Channi Rama.
The mishap occurred today about 12.30 pm in Fruit Market Narwal, when the brakes of the truck bearing registration number HR46C-2425 carrying bananas got failed and in a bid to control the speed of the vehicle the driver took a sudden turn due to which the truck turned turtle and crushed the three persons, one on bike, another on scooty and the third one standing on the ground.
On getting information a police team from police post Narwal led by Sub Inspector Mehmood Khan reached the spot and rushed all the injured to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where Pawan Kumar and Mohinder Singh were declared as brought dead by the doctors. The bodies of both the deceased were handed over to their legal heirs for last rites after completing all medico-legal formalities while Deedar Singh is under doctors’ observation.
A case in this connection has been registered at concerned police station and a manhunt launched to nab the driver, who escaped from the spot.
