RAJOURI, Apr 13: Property worth lakhs was destroyed while two buffaloes were charred to death as two houses were gutted in district Rajouri on Sunday.
Official sources said that house of one Faqar Din, son of Dil Mohammed, caught fire at Morha Pathi, Ward No. 6, in Kot Dharra area near Rajouri during afternoon. The house was Kucha and large quantity of timber was used in it. The entire houses was totally burnt despite tough efforts by the villagers. A nearby cattle shed also caught fire and two buffaloes tied there were also charred to death. Two more cattle were injured and about a dozen chickens were also charred to death. The family members, however, ran to safety.
Two fire tenders from Rajouri were rushed to the site but the entire house had already been engulfed in huge flames. The Police party led by SHO Rajouri Salim Jeelani also reached there after some time. The SHO said that the incident took place at around 4.15 pm and most of the household goods were totally burnt in the incident. He said the immediate cause of fire could not be known but it is believed that short circuit could be the reason behind the incident. The loss of property was being assessed, the SHO said.
Meanwhile, in yet another similar incident, the house of one Mohd Yousuf, son of Noor Mohammed, resident of MorhaGargote in Sankari area near Peeri was totally reduced to ashes during afternoon.
A police official said that police party from Police Post Peeri received the information during the day and rushed to the village. The villagers tried to douse the fire but could not control it. The area is far away from Darhal and Rajouri and no fire fighting assistance could be provided.
He said a case has been registered in this connection by Peeri police but cause of fire could not be known immediately. The family has been provided shelter to a nearby house. The relief assistance to both the affected families from District Administration is yet awaited.
