Two HM militants drown in Gurez

SRINAGAR Sept 5: Two infiltrating militants of Hizbul Mujahideen drowned in Kishangana in Gurez sector of Banidpora district in North Kashmir while security forces launched a massive operation against a group of militants in Kupwara forest area during which one M-4 rifle was recovered after a brief gun battle.
Police today recovered the two bodies of newly infiltrated militants of Pulwama in Tulail area of Gurez in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
The bodies of both the newly infiltrated militants were spotted in a Nallah at Malangham area of Tulail which is very close to Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector.

After getting information about it, police team along with Army reached the spot and retrieved the bodies from the spot. The bodies were later taken to Sub district Hospital Gurez for medical legal formalities.
The duo had crossed the border recently, reached Tulail area of this side and might have died due to drowning.
Some incriminating material including four AK Magazine, 116 AK rounds, 16 9mm rounds, one grenade, one wireless set, four wrist watches, driving license and an identity card have also been recovered from one of the bodies.
They were identified as Nisar Ahmad Rather son of Abdul Aziz Rather from Dadsara, Tral and Sameer Ahmad Dar son of Mohammed Yousuf Dar from Dogripora area of Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
They said that both were affiliated with the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit. While Nisar Ahmad was missing from his home since February 2018, in the same way Sameer, a driver by profession, was also missing from his home since August 2019.
Both the militants had crossed to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) to take the arms training and they were returning during which they drowned in Kishanganga river at Tulail.
After the autopsy, the police have taken both the bodies into their custody and that they will be buried as per current protocol and SOPs.
After fierce gun battle in North Kashmir’s Kupwara forests, reinforcements of troops have been sent to take on a group of militants hiding the area.
The reinforcements to the encounter site at Dana Behak, Warnow in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district have been sent for the intensified searches in the forests and operation has been put on halt in view of darkness.
The troops and militants exchanged gunfire at Dana Behak in Warnow Lolab area of Kupwara district this afternoon after searches of the area.
A joint search operation was launched by the security forces on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
A 5.56 mm M-4 rifle, a Pithu bag and a Motorola wireless set was recovered from the area during the searches.
And security forces today said that Hizbul Mujahideen was trying to re-establish its base in North Kashmir but alert forces are ready to foil such moves.
Addressing a joint press conference at Hyderbeig, Pattan, Deputy Inspector General of Police North Kashmir range, Muhammad Sulaiman Choudhary said that the two militants who were killed in Pattan yesterday belonged to the Hizbul Mujahideen.
The DIG said that it was almost after four years that Hizb militants were killed in North Kashmir. “It seems that Hizb is trying to re-establish its base in north Kashmir. We are alert and ready to foil all the plans of Hizb that are aimed at its revival in north Kashmir,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Commander 20 Sector RR Brigadier N K Mishra said that that local militant recruitment has gone down in North Kashmir. “In 2018, 38 militants joined militancy, in 2018 the number was 19 and this year the number is very less,” he said, adding that whenever any local boy joins militancy, the army approaches his parents and relatives and puts in best to bring the person back. “We have succeeded on this front. If youth of this area would join mainstream, this area would be the country’s best area on the developmental front”, he added.
