Two held with 700 kg poppy straw

UDHAMPUR, Nov 25: Chenani police today arrested two persons with over 700 kg poppy straw (Bhukki) from two trucks near Chenani on National Highway.
“Based on specific inputs, a police party of police station Chenani led by SHO Paramjeet Singh and under the supervision of Santokh Raj Deol SDPO Chenani laid a special naka at Chenani,” a police official said, adding during naka checking, a vehicle bearing registration number PB11Q-8927 which was on its way from Srinagar towards Jammu was signaled to stop but the driver of the vehicle instead accelerated the vehicle.
He said that alert naka party along with CRPF personnel of 84 Battalion chased the vehicle and compelled the driver to stop the vehicle. “While checking of the vehicle, 15 big bags containing 647.42kgs of poppy straw like substance found in the vehicle,” he said the consignment was seized and driver of the vehicle namely Jog Raj Singh son of Harbans Singh of Mangli (Punjab) was arrested.
“In this connection, a case FIR No 120/2019 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act 179 MV Act was registered at police station Chenani and further investigation of the case is going on,” the official added.
Meanwhile, two big bags containing 51.470 kg of poppy straw like substance were also recovered by Chenani police from another vehicle bearing registration number 07BG-1365 which was on its way from Srinagar to Jammu. The driver of the vehicle identified as Yash Paul Sharma son of Amin Chand of Abeh Pur (Panchkulla, Haryana) was arrested whereas a case FIR No 121/2019 under section 8/15 NDPS Act 467, 468 IPC was registered at police station Chenani.
