Two guards injured in attack by wooden logs smugglers

KATHUA, May 14: Two Forest Department guards were injured in attack by the wooden logs smugglers in Ghatti area here.
As per police sources, on specific information about cutting of Khair wood trees of the farmers and smuggling of the same, a team of Forest Department laid a naka in Ghatti area and signaled a vehicle bearing registration number JK02BV-6686.
On seeing Forest Department officials, the driver escaped from the spot leaving behind the vehicle.
During checking, the officials seized 30 logs of Khair wood trees and seized them along with the vehicle.
As the officials were shifting the vehicle to Forest Department depot for legal proceedings, the wooden logs smugglers attacked them with sharp edged weapons. Locals also rushed to the spot to rescue the officials, while the smugglers managed to escape from the spot.
In the attack, two Forest Department guards received injuries and were discharged after medical aid.
However, Forest Department and Kathua Police have initiated legal action against the wooden logs smugglers.
