JAMMU, May 26: Eight individuals, including two Government employees, were arrested with substantial quantity of narcotic substances in separate operations from four districts of Jammu region today, officials said.
In one of the major operations in Jammu district on May 25, two persons, identified as Hanief Choudhary of Ganda, Miran Sahib and Bhim Singh of Purana Pind, RS Pura at present Ward number 12, RS Pura, were arrested with 260 grams of heroin-like substance by a team of Police Station Miran Sahib, they said.
Both accused persons are class-IV employees of the Agriculture Department, presently posted at Seed Multiplication Farm Chakroi, RS Pura, officials said.
The accused individuals were accordingly booked in case FIR number 76/2026 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Miran Sahib.
Another individual, identified as Janak Raj of Rangpur Sidhrey, Tehsil RS Pura, District Jammu, was arrested with 10.60 grams of heroin-like substance by a team of Police Station RS Pura from his village.
He was booked in case FIR number 100/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station RS Pura.
Another alleged drug peddler, identified as Puranchandra Dora of Nayagarh (Odisha), presently residing at Jakh, tehsil Vijaypur, was arrested with 1 kilogram of Ganja-like substance by a team of Police Station Vijaypur during patrolling duty at Shiv Nagar Road.
The accused has been booked in case FIR number 87/2026 under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Vijaypur.
Two more drug peddlers were arrested separately in Udhampur district with over 5 grams of heroin-like substance.
In the first case, one Raman Kumar of Omalla, tehsil & district Udhampur was arrested with 3.09 grams of heroin during patrolling duty near Railway Station Roun Domail.
He was booked in case FIR number 226/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Udhampur.
Another individual, identified as Chetan Dogra of Sailan Tallab, tehsil and District Udhampur, was arrested with 2.49 grams of heroin by a team of Police Station Udhampur.
He was booked in case FIR number 224/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Udhampur.
Meanwhile, two persons, identified as Pawan Singh of Sherpur, Katra and Rakesh Sharma of Birbal Sharma of Agar Jitto, Katra, were arrested with 4 grams of heroin during naka checking at Katra on May 25.
The accused were accordingly booked in case FIR number 162/2026 under sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Katra.
Officials said further investigation into all the cases has been set into motion.
