Two drug peddlers arrested with poppy straw, heroin

JAMMU, Sept 18: Ramban and Narwal Police arrested two drug peddlers along with poppy straw and heroin.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Police Station Ramban led by Inspector Sandeep Charak laid a naka near Shan Palace and intercepted a truck bearing registration number HR56A-7084 which was on its way from Srinagar towards Jammu.
During checking, police team recovered approximately 577.94 kilograms of poppy straw which was concealed in a specially designed cavity box by modifying the body of the truck for the purpose of smuggling the narcotics.
The truck driver identified as Kapil, son of Jiginder Singh and associate Sonu, son of Krishan, both residents of Khadwali Rohtak, Haryana were arrested on the spot.
During preliminary questioning, the accused confessed that they were illegally transporting the contraband substance towards Jammu.
A case under FIR Number 144/2021 under Section 8/15/29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Ramban and investigation initiated.
Meanwhile, a team from Police Post Narwal led by PSI Sunil Singh under the supervision of SHO Inspector Deepak Pathania laid a naka and intercepted a scooty bearing registration number JK02CT-6448.
During checking, police team recovered 5.17 grams heroin from the possession of the rider and arrested him.
The arrested person was identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of Kupper Bajalta District Jammu.
A case under FIR Number 306/2021 under Section 8/21/22/25 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and investigation started.
