Two-day national seminar on Tribal & Dalits begins at JU

JAMMU, Mar 15: The two-day national seminar on “Social Exclusion/Inclusion in North West Region: Regional Transformation among Tribal and Dalit Groups”, organized by Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, began at Jammu University, here today.
The seminar has been sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research, North Western Regional Centre, Punjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Directorate of Distance and Online Education(DD&OE), and Department of Economics.
In the inaugural function, Prof Pankaj K Srivastava, Director, DD&OE was the chief guest and Prof Aroon Sharma, Head Department of Economics was the guest of honor.
The keynote speech was delivered by Prof Balwinder Singh Tiwana, formerly HoD Economics, Punjabi University, Patiala. He emphasized to integrate the marginalized communities into the mainstream society for their cultural and economic empowerment and development, and the need for maintaining socio-cultural-economic sustainability across the vulnerable communities of India.
Guest of honour Prof Aroon Sharma highlighted the need to develop a strong linkage between cultural sustainability for socio-economic transformation to empower tribal and Dalit groups.
Prof Pankaj K Srivastava emphasized on the relevance of such collaborative seminars for academic progress. Prof Jasbir Singh, Seminar Director, presented the performance report of the Centre along with the objectives of the seminar and scope of collaborative academic activities.
Prof Anupama Vohra, Seminar Co-convener presented the vote of thanks while Dr Shallu Sehgal conducted the proceedings.
In the subsequent after lunch sessions of the seminar, more than twenty well researched papers were presented. More than 200 participants across the States and Union Territories of India such as Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Chandigarh are attending the brainstorming sessions on the various seminar themes.
