Two-day national conference on Environmental issues concludes at JU

JAMMU, Mar 25: Two-day  national conference on “Environmental issues, concerns and solutions”, by the Department of Environmental Sciences concluded here today.
Prof YR Malhotra, former Vice Chancellor and Ex MLC was the chief guest on the occasion, while as Abhai Kumar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests was the guest of honour. Suresh Chugh, Director, Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing was the special guest.
Prof Raj Kumar Rampal, Convener of the conference and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences introduced the conference theme and presented the welcome address.
Dr Deepika Slathia, organizing secretary, EICS, presented the detailed conference report. More than 90 research papers categorized in eight different categories and nine technical sessions on oral and poster mode were presented in the two days course of the conference, she said.
Prof YR Malhotra highlighted the issues related to physical, biological and socio-economic facets. He said that the conference and recommendations will highly benefit the young researchers in exploring the modern innovative modes of research and also be useful for policy makers in adopting sustainable ways to achieve economic development.
Abhai Kumar in his address impressed upon the scientists and scholars to take forward their research from the traditional laboratory research to the field.
Suresh Chugh in his address assured full support and guidance of his directorate on all endeavors related to the academic and outreach activities.
Dr Neeraj Sharma, Incharge IME, Bhaderwah Campus presented vote of thanks.
Among others present were Prof Shashi Kant, Prof RC Gupta, Prof GA Bhat,  Prof RK Gupta, Prof Ambrish Mahajan, Dr CM Seth,  Prof PS Dutta, Dr Sudesh Yadav, Dr  Adarsh Vig, Dr Amarjeet Soodan, RS Jasrotia, OP Vidyarthi and the officers from Department of Forests, Ecology and Environment, SPCB, HoDs of different departments, members of civil society, NGOs etc.
