Two day Gojri folk music programme commences

JAMMU, Feb 26: J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages here today inaugurated a two day Gojri folk music programme at K.L Saigal Hall.
Haroon Rasheed presided over the function while Vibodh Gupta, Ex-MLC and Prof Shallini Raina were guests of honour.
In welcome address, Secretary JKAACL, Munir-ul-Islam, said that JKAACL is committed for the promotion and development of all regional languages of J&K and in this context the two day Gojri festival is being organized.
He commended the scholars, writers and poets who worked and are working tirelessly to strengthen Gojri language.
The Secretary stressed upon translation of Gojri works in other languages so that non-Gojri speaking people may also know about the literary and folklore work done in Gojri.
He said that Academy is doing its best and have published various translation works and have a vast readership even in the neighbouring countries too.
Prominent folk music parties and noted Gojri singers of J&K who mesmerized the audience by traditional and folk singing in their melodious voices were Shah Firdous and party, Sameer Ahmed, Ajaz Ahmed, Sameer Ahmed from Jammu, Gulam Hussain Tabusam, Junaid Ahmed Dildar and Shabnam Akhtar, Basher Mastana, Qammar Shabwan, Yaseer Bashir etc.
Rakesh Anand, Krishan Kumar and Neeraj Verma accompanied the singers as musicians.
The function was witnessed by prominent writers, artists, intellectuals from Gujjar community besides
Shah Mohd Choudhary, Anwar Choudhary, Mohd. Rafi, Dr. Jitendra Udahampuri, Prof. Dr. Raj Kumar, Harbans Singh Vishav Nagrik, Dr. Manojèet, Yash Pal Yash and Dr. Harish Kaila.
Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Shahnawaz, Editor-cum-Cultural Officer Gojri.
Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, Sr. Drama Instructor was the overall in-charge of the programme.
