Two arrested for assaulting, looting shopkeeper in Gandhi Nagar

JAMMU, Jan 3: Gandhi Nagar police today arrested two persons who were involved in a case of assault and loot of a shopkeeper in Gandhi Nagar area.
According to the police spokesman, three unknown persons late last night intercepted a shopkeeper identified as Vinod Gupta (55), son of Chaman Lal, resident of Gandhi Nagar, who is owner of M/s Fashion Fab (Cantabil), in a lane in Gandhi Nagar area and tried to snatch his bag of cash.
“When the shopkeeper restricted their move, they hit him with iron rods and finally managed to snatch the bag containing Rs one lakh (approx) and fled from the spot”, the spokesman said, adding, the mishap occurred when the shopkeeper was walking towards his home after closing the shop.
He said that the injured shopkeeper was shifted to Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, where after providing initial treatment, he was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital for CT Scan, as he had received serious injuries on his head.
Expressing resentment over the incident, Apsara Road Traders’ Association this morning met SHO, police station Gandhi Nagar, Inspector Sunil Jasrotia and the concerned SP and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
Meanwhile, Gandhi Nagar police registered a case under relevant sections in this connection and acting swiftly, managed to arrest two of the three accused from RS Pura area. The arrested accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh son of Amarjeet Singh of Kotli Shahdula (RS Pura) and Kuldeep Raj son of Ram Rakha, resident of Nulwal (RS Pura).
According to SHO Gandhi Nagar, the third accused namely Rajat Kumar son of Krishan Lal, resident of Kotli Shahdula (RS Pura), who was the mastermind of the robbery, is still absconding and raids are being conducted to nab him. He further informed that Rajat was an employee of the victim shopkeeper a few years back.
The officer informed that out of the one lakh (approx) looted money, Rs 38000 have been recovered from the two arrested accused.
