Two absconders arrested by Crime Branch

JAMMU, Aug 7: Two absconders were apprehended by the Crime Branch in Jammu for their involvement in separate cases of defrauding people.
A spokesperson said that the Economic Offences Wing’s special team apprehended Bashir Ahmed Mir of Kathpora, Kulgam, who had been evading arrest for 22 years.
He was wanted in a case related to defrauding people by luring them to invest in the non-banking finance company Kashmir Valley Finance and Investment Ltd. The charges included cheating and fraud, leading to an arrest warrant being issued against him.
In another case, he said, one Harminder Gandhi from Meerut, UP, was arrested by the Special team of the Economic Offences Wing. He was accused of duping a complainant by taking money in advance for selling second-hand cars but failing to provide delivery or NOC.
“Charges were proven against Gandhi during the investigation, and a charge sheet was produced in court. However, the accused had been evading arrest, leading to an arrest warrant,” he said.
Pertinently, over the past 8 weeks, a total of 7 absconders have been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch Jammu.
