Truck plunges into gorge; son killed, father injured

KISHTWAR, Feb 23: A minor boy was killed, while his father was seriously injured, when the truck they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into deep gorge near Phagumar on Doda-Kishtwar National Highway.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JKO2W-2137 was on its way to Kishtwar from Thatri, when the incident took place, resulting into serious injuries to occupants.
On getting information, police team and Red Cross volunteers rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. Two occupants of the truck were rescued and shifted to district hospital Kishtwar, where doctors declared 10-year-old Atif Hussain, son of Mohammed Iqbal Sheikh of Kuchal Chatroo as brought dead.
The driver of the truck injured identified as 40-year-old Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh, son of Ghulam Rasool of Kuchal Chatroo was later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), for advance treatment.
The body of the deceased was handed over to legal heirs for last rites after completing legal formalities.
Police has taken the cognizance in this regard.
