Truck knocks youth to death, public protests

RAJOURI, July 28:  The public today held strong protest after a youth was killed and another seriously  injured after being  hit  by an unknown truck near Rajouri town late last night.
Both the youth kept  lying on the road near Darhali bridge unattended  and were shifted to hospital by police at around 12.30 midnight. One of them was declared as brought dead by the doctors. The other was struggling for life in hospital.
A police spokesman said  that both the youth  hailing from Reyan village in Kotranka, riding on a motor-cycle No. JK02AT/8043, were moving towards town. Near Darhali bridge, just closer to FCI godown, an unknown truck hit the bike and fled away from the site of accident.
The deceased was identified as Talib Hussain (26), son of Abdul Karim from Reyon. The injured Nassir Hussain, son of Mohd Rafiq was undergoing treatment in DH Rajouri.
As the body of Talib reached his home this morning, the people kept the body on Rajouri-Kotranka-Budhal road and started protest against police at 10 AM. They alleged that boys kept lying on the road for long and due to excessive bleeding one of the youth was  died. They demanded that truck be traced and accused driver be arrested.  A large number of vehicles were stranded on the road for two hours. Later, SHO Kotranka and Tehsildar reached the spot and they pacified the agitating people. Then they lifted dharna from the road.
