Truck driver, associate held with over 1.5 qtls poppy straw

RAMBAN, Nov 14: Police today arrested a truck driver and his associate along with large quantity of poppy straw from Ladhwal Morh area, falling under the jurisdiction of Batote police station.
As per police sources, a police team from Batote police station laid a naka at Ladhwal Morh and intercepted an apple loaded truck bearing registration JKO1U-1191.
During checking, police recovered 20 boxes packed with poppy straw weighing 1.73 quintals and arrested driver and conductor of the vehicle.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Shabir (driver), son of Mohammad Younis of Sangote Chenani, district Udhampur and Mohammad Ishaq (conductor), son of Abdul Gani of Chachua, Sangaldan.
A case under FIR number 113/14 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at police station Batote and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Batote Inspector Mohammad Iqbal made the arrest under the supervision of SSP Ramban Javed Iqbal Mattoo.
