SRINAGAR, Apr 5: Army today described the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and in hinter land as under control and said that they are ready for any militant challenge.
General Officer Commanding 15 Corps, Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh, told reporters on the sidelines of passing out parade of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK LI) Regiment at Old Air Field Rangreth, in Srinagar: “I would like say that situation along the LoC and hinterland is under control.”
Singh said that Army has effective counter insurgency and intelligence network in place to counter the infiltration along the LoC. He said that besides excellent coordination between various security agencies to counter any threats.
While responding to a question on security preparedness on the eve of elections and infiltration of militants along the LoC from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), the GOC said: “We are fully prepared to meet any internal or external challenge at the LoC.”
The GOC complimented over 300 youth of the State and their parents who were inducted into Indian Army today at an impressive function. “I am proud of these boys and their parents who motivated them to join this profession”, he added.
Singh congratulated the young soldiers for their immaculate parade and impressed upon selfless service towards the nation. Singing their regimental song ‘Balidanam Veer Lakshman, 310 recruits from the State were inducted into the JAK LI Regiment this morning.
Forty nine week of arduous training (Recruit Course Serial number 96) of these 310 recruits culminated today. Their Passing Out Parade, depicting transformation of a Recruit into a young soldier, was reviewed by General Singh and over 2500 parents, relatives of these pass outs with a number of civil/military dignitaries attended the parade held at Bana Singh Parade Ground at the JAK LI Regimental Centre in Srinagar.
These soldiers of the Regiment hailing from the State took oath in unison to serve the nation.
In the investiture ceremony, Recruit Vicky Singh who distinguished himself in all disciplines of his training was awarded the Sher-e-Kashmir, Sword of Honour and the Triveni Singh Medal, for being adjudged as the overall best recruit in the course. He was also conferred upon the Chewang Rinchen Medal for being the Best Recruit in Firing. Recruit Qadar Khan, who won the Bana Singh Medal for being Best in Drill, commanded the parade.
