Srinagar, July 6: Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Dr Jagat Singh, today said that the troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir have been put on high alert after four ceasefire violations by Pakistan in a single day yesterday.
Dr Singh told reporters on the sidelines of wreath laying function at Humhama, Srinagar that Pakistan violated ceasefire at four different places in North Kashmir along the LoC yesterday, killing a BSF jawan and the Indian troops also gave them a befitting reply. “Yesterday, Pakistan violated ceasefire at four places. We gave them befitting reply and any such violations will meet the same reply in future”, he said.
The IG BSF said that the troops along the LoC have been put on high alert after the ceasefire violations. “Last time the ceasefire violation along LoC in Kashmir took place in November last year. We have put the troops on alert”, he said. He, however, said that no firing has been reported after yesterday’s ceasefire violations.
Dr Singh said that he didn’t rule out attempts of infiltration under the cover of ceasefire violations. “There is possibility of infiltration being the reason for the ceasefire violations. We can’t rule out any possibility”, he added. He, however, said that no infiltration has taken place in the areas where there was ceasefire violation yesterday.
Giving details, the IG BSF said personnel of 119th battalion of BSF were guarding the Line of Control (LoC), when Pakistani troops resorted to indiscriminate and unprovoked firing, targeting forward posts. “A jawan Abhijit Nandi, resident of West Bengal, was hit at K B Post and immediately shifted to hospital, where he was declared dead”, he said.
Dr Singh said that the militant training camps across the LoC are intact and over 150 militants are waiting across the LoC for infiltration.
It may be mentioned here that as per Army over 200 militants are waiting on the LoC for infiltration and they have foiled six infiltration attempts this year killing 12 militants. Army also lost three jawans while fighting infiltrators.
The yesterday’s ceasefire violation took place a day after an 11-year-old Pakistani boy, who had inadvertently slipped into Tangdhar sector last week, was handed over to Rangers at Teetwal crossing point.
Meanwhile, the body of Nandi was brought at S T Centre, Humhama near Srinagar Airport where senior BSF officers paid floral tributes to him. The body will be sent to New Delhi where from it will be flown to Kolkotta and then taken to his native village.
