“We are dominating the LoC along with the Army in a better way. This year, there were two infiltration attempts which were foiled by the security forces,” he said.
He added that with new methodologies and surveillance equipment, infiltration is becoming increasingly difficult on this side.
“There are regular attempts, especially before the snowfall. Some attempts are made in the two months leading up to November, because they know that for the next six months there are no chances of infiltration.”
He said that forces are on alert to thwart such attempts. “There are regular attempts to infiltrate, but we are working effectively in alert mode. Any sort of infiltration is difficult,” Yadav said.
He said launching pads opposite the BSF’s Area of Responsibility, particularly in Kupwara and Bandipora, “have a presence of terrorists” who remain in search of opportunities and try to take advantage of the weather to infiltrate.
“The security is tight. They keep attempting, but we are effectively active,” he added.
On the marathon, he said it was organized last year as well and that registrations are currently open and free.
“The aim is to raise awareness about the cleanliness of Wular Lake and connect the youth with the security forces. We want the community and security forces to work together; more people should register and participate,” he said.
Notably, the BSF Kashmir Frontier is set to host the “Save Wular — Run with Borderman” marathon on October 12, as part of its environmental preservation initiative.
The event aims to promote environmental awareness, foster bonding with the local populace, and encourage youth to focus on positive goals, the BSF said.
The T-shirt unveiling ceremony for the marathon was held at the Hangul Officers’ Institute, BSF Frontier Headquarters, Humhama, in the presence of Satish S. Khandare, IPS, ADG HQ Spl DG (WC) Chandigarh; Soloman Minz, IG STC Kashmir; Ashok Yadav, IG BSF Kashmir Frontier; and Shashank Anand, IG BSF Jammu Frontier.
Key highlights of the marathon include three race formats—5 km, 10 km, and 21.1 km—open to both men and women.
Approximately 3,000 participants from across the nation, particularly the Kashmir valley, are expected to take part, while registration for the event has already commenced.
“The event also aims to identify local talent and sponsor them under the ‘Khelo India’ scheme of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for further training and participation in national and international running events,” the BSF said.
The Wular Half Marathon 2.0 seeks to protect the environmental crown of Kashmir, specifically Wular lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the Indian subcontinent.
The event promotes environmental awareness, sportsmanship, and tourism in the Valley under the slogan “Save Wular, Run with Borderman.”
