JAMMU, Dec 28: Women Club Meri Pehchan today organized an impressive function wherein rich tributes were paid to the legendary Dogras who created Dogra empire of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Tibet Ha in 1846 and defended its boundaries.
Dogras from different walks of life took part in the programme and paid tributes to Maharaja Gulab Singh and his great General Zorawar Singh who had extended the frontiers of the country and provided a strategic depth on the Northern Himalayas.
General Zorawar Singh, who is called Napoleon of the East, was remembered with gratitude for his contribution to the history of India. One can imagine if Maharaja Gulab Singh and Gen Zorawar Singh had not conquered Ladakh and not annexed Gilgit Baltistan and finally added Kashmir, what would be the present map of India, said the speakers on the occasion.
Paying tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh and Brig Rajinder Singh, his Chief of Military Staff for saving the State from the British planned Pakistani invasion on October 22, 1947, the speakers said but for the contribution of Brig Rajinder Singh, Kashmir would have been lost. Paying tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh, we remember him for Accession to India and the declaration of Govt holiday on Accession Day will always remind us of Maharaja Hari Singh, they added.
Speaking on the occasion, Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal recounted the history of the State and also informed the State Army, now the JAK Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army, will be celebrating its Bi-Centenary on April 13, 2020 in Jammu.
Sandhya Gupta, founder Women Club Meri Pehchan, said that she has instituted an Award in the name of Maharaja Hari Singh Samman 2019 for the doers in various activities.
On the occasion, Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal was also honored for his untiring service for the cause of the Dogras, soldiers and their families and environment.
