JAMMU, Oct 11: To commemorate the 113th birth anniversary of Jai Prakash Narayan, BJP organized “Loktantra Raksha Diwas” programme.
In the programme, State General Secretary Ashok Koul along with Senior leader Chander Mohan Sharma, State Spokesperson Arun Gupta, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao State Convenor SS Bijral, Murari Lal, Raj Kumar and others paid tributes to Narayan.
Jammu East MLA and District President Rajesh Gupta presided over the programme, while Prof Chaman Lal Gupta was chief guest. The main speakers in the programme were Ashok Koul and Chander Mohan Sharma.
Ashok Koul while speaking said that Jai Prakash Narayan gave a new direction to the fight against Emergency and earned the title of “Lok Nayak” as he came out to be the real hero, who got freedom for the country from black era of Emergency.
Chander Mohan Sharma said that although democracy was restored in 1977 but still there are threats to smooth functioning of democracy by separatists, communal forces and anti national elements. He asked the people to get united to defeat such forces and contribute in further flourishing democracy.
Rajesh Gupta said that this day reminds us of what JP Narayan did for the nation and it’s our duty to educate the younger generations about the importance of strengthening the democracy.
BJP veteran leader Amarnath Gupta said that the atrocities committed on the people during the Emergency were not less than the British rule but still such atrocities could not force the patriotic citizens to bow or surrender.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Rajeev Bhardwaj.
Among those who attended the function included freedom fighters Atma Ram Sharma and Vijay Bharti, BJP leaders and social activists Balbir Ram Rattan, Surinder Sharma, Ashwani Sharma, Ramesh Jasrotia, Veena Devi, Rashpal Singh, Karan Singh, Anju Dogra, Kuldeep Kandhari and others.
