JAMMU, Nov 3: Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha (DBPS) today paid rich tributes to Shaheed Major Som Nath Sharma who laid down his life while defending the Srinagar Airport from the attack of tribal’s in collaboration with Pak Army on November 3, 1947.
President of DBPS, Ved Parkash Sharma and others paid floral tributes to Shaheed Major Som Nath at a function held in the Sabha premises where speakers recalled sacrifices of this great soldier.
Sharma, while speaking on the occasion, said remembering martyrs like Major Som Nath Sharma is itself a matter of pride for the nation. He said after the martyrdom of Major Sharma, almost his entire family joined Indian army, thereby setting an example that the sacrifices of one member from family cannot demoralize others.
He said that present situation in the State demands that the people should take inspiration from the supreme sacrifices of the brave soldiers and stand by Army and Para-military forces to give a befitting replay to Pakistan for its acts of cease fire violation and firing on border. Sharma also demanded naming either airport of the State on Major Somnath Sharma.
Paying rich tributes to Major Som Nath Sharma, Advocate PC Sharma said that the real tribute to Major Som Nath will be to take pledge to keep our self always prepared to face challenges which pose threat to the unity and integrity of the motherland.
Rich tributes were also paid to first Param Vir Chakra awardee Major Som Nath Sharma by Shri Kailash Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansthan Trust, in a simple function organized today under the persidentship of the Trust, Mahant Rohit Shastri.
Rohit Shastri, while speaking on the occasion, highlighted the great role of Shaheed Major Som Nath in protecting Srinagar Airport from the attack of Kabalis and Pakistan Army on November 3, 1947. He appealed Governor SP Malik to pay homage to Major Som Nath by rechristening Jammu Airport on the name of Major Som Nath and declare holiday on January 31, on the eve of Major Som Nath’s birthday.
