JAMMU, Oct 15: Rich tributes were paid to former president of India, APJ Abdul Kalam on the occasion of his 85th birth anniversary across Jammu region.
Celebrating the anniversary of Dr Kalam as World Students’ Day, the ABVP president, Central University of Jammu (CUJ), Vikram Singh Jamwal, along with GM Ali, secretary, Jammu Maha Nagar and Rajinder Kumar, Incharge, ABVP (CUJ) and other members of the ABVP unit of CUJ, paid floral tributes to Dr Kalam.
Government Degree College Thannamandi under the banner of Science Club of the College celebrated World Students’ Day (birthday of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam). The programme was presided over by Principal of the College, Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina and chief guest on the occasion was Dr Shamas Kamal Anjum, HoD, Department of Arabic, BGSB University, Rajouri. A symposium was organized on the occasion in which students from higher secondary schools of subdivision Thannamandi and the college itself presented speeches on life and contributions of Dr Abdul Kalam. In the college category, the first position was bagged by Flower Afsana Chand. The second and third positions went to Sadia Farooq and Danish Bashir, respectively.
Rich Harvest School, Bari Brahmana celebrated Kalam’s birthday anniversary as ‘Vaachan Prena Diwas’. An inter class autobiography “Wings of Fire” competition was held in the school premises to mark the celebration. The students paid tributes to the great visionary leader. A role play was enacted by students on the life of Dr Kalam’s teacher, Shiv Subramaniam Iyer about how he inspired and motivated him to become a Missile man. The students of RHS took an oath that they would also follow the footsteps of missile man and created a model of missile in the school.
Carmel Convent High School, Kunjwani paid a befitting tribute to the Missile man by organizing a variety of activities on his birthday anniversary. Dr Kalam’s life was narrated through speeches, declamation skits and songs. The importance of education to girl child in particular was highlighted in all the events.
