Tributes paid to Ambedkar on 123rd birth anniversary

JAMMU, May 4: Rich tributes were paid to Dr BR Ambedkar in connection with his 123rd birth anniversary in an impressive function held at Paloura here today.
Deputy Chief Minister  Tara Chand was the chief guest while MLA Bhaderwah Mohd Sharief Niaz, former Chief Secretary and MLC B R  Kundal, former Ministers Mula Ram and  Ram Paul, besides national secretary NCDHR, New Delhi,  Paul Divakar were also present on the occasion.
A large number of people from the Schedule Caste community assembled at a banquet hall at Paloura under the banner of all J&K SC Welfare Association and paid their rich tributes to Dr Ambedkar.
RL Bharti, president of the Association highlighted the burning issues of the Schedule Castes of J&K and impressed upon the Government to resolve the problems of the community at the earliest.  He demanded special component plan for SC/ST, prevention of atrocities for SC/ST, adhocism in recruitment by Government, political reservation, legislation of  Right to Education Act in J&K and provision of scholarship to all SC students.
Mr Bharti also raised the issue of  non-inclusion of many deserving people from the SC community in the BPL lists,  proper political reservation  to the community in the legislature, construction of hostels for the children of SC community etc.
The Dy CM in his address assured the members of the community and representatives of J&K SC Welfare Association to address their issues at the earliest. Mr Niaz, Mula Ram, Ram Paul and Paul  Divakar also spoke on the occasion.
