Tri-colour hoisted over Press Enclave at Lal Chowk in Srinagar for the first time since independence

SRINAGAR: Tri-colour was hoisted over Press Enclave at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, for the first time since independence. Union Minister Jitendra Singh took to Twitter and shared a photograph of the national flag flying atop the premier institution.
According to local media reports, the national flag was hoisted in compliance with the orders of the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The development comes just a day after a flag was hoisted atop SKIMS Soura, a premier tertiary care hospital in the Valley.
A circular regarding this was issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, PK Pole, last week. In March, the J&K administration had directed all the government schools across the UT t display signboards with a tricolour in the background.
In August 2019, the Centre abrogated Article 370 and revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two UTs – Ladakh and J&K. (AGENCY)
