Gathered at Ware House Jammu, scores of transporters shared their grievances against the Transport Department, alleging a breach of trust.
They pointed to a previous understanding between Transport Associations and the Department, which stipulated consultation before the introduction of e-buses on long routes.
However, they alleged that the Government bypassed this agreement by permitting e-buses on the Jammu-Chhamb and Jammu-RS Pura routes without soliciting their input.
One of the transporters said, “we affirm our support for the integration of e-buses, but Government should also understand the critical need for consultation to minimize the adverse effects on the existing operators.”
With 70 buses already in operation across Jammu District, he urged for coordinated planning to avert disruptions in the transport ecosystem.
Another transporter lamented the apparent disregard for their union’s inputs during three months of dialogue with the Government, highlighting a lack of serious consideration for their suggestions.
Warning of potential future discontent, he stressed the importance of the Government taking their concerns seriously.
Moreover, he emphasized that any inconvenience experienced by the public due to the unplanned rollout of e-buses should be attributed to the Government’s oversight.
