JAMMU, Dec 20: Jammu and Kashmir Motor Transport Companies Association held a protest demonstration against the ongoing practice of overloading.
The transporters under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Motor Transport Companies Association (JKMTCA) assembled outside Toll Post, Rail Head and raised slogans against the Sales Tax Department and Traffic Police.
The protestors alleged that trucks were found to be loaded with 18 MT of goods instead of 9 MT which is non-permissible and violation of Motor Vehicle Act.
The trucks were seized and later handed over to Police Station Narwal for further action, they added.
“We brought this matter into the notice of higher authorities, but no action has been taken to stop the overloading”, they said.
“Traffic Police and Sales Tax Department authorities are not co-operating to stop the practice of overloading despite the matter having also brought into their notice”, protestors alleged.
They urged the higher authorities to arrange a permanent weight bridge and mobile squad to stop the menace of overloading.
