JAMMU, Nov 18: With a view to addressing various issues pertaining to transporters of Jammu division, a meeting was chaired today by the Transport Commissioner, J&K, Saugat Biswas.
The transporters were represented by TS Wazir, Chairman, All J&K Transport Welfare Association, Presidents and office bearers of various transport associations.
Various issues raised by the transporters were discussed threadbare in the meeting. Issues discussed and addressed included annual fitness fees of vehicles over 15 years of age issues related to Speed Governors, driving licenses for auto drivers, use of reflector tapes, replacements of vehicles, charging of adda fees, passenger tax, suitable location of inspection of vehicles, the revision of fees and taxes, amenity scheme for passenger tax among others.
Transport Commissioner assured time bound action in respect of each of the issues. He also shared that he will follow up with the concerned quarters, all other issues which pertain to other departments or are required to be settled by the Government. He also appealed to the transporters to extend their cooperation in implementing measures aiming at improving the transport sector and road safety issues.
Biswas informed that while every effort will be made to ensure ease of doing business of the transporters, the Motor Vehicles Department will not compromise on ensuring on safety of passengers, fitness of vehicles and driver compliances. He sought positive support from the transporters for ensuring the same.
The meeting was attended by Mohinder Singh, Additional Transport Commissioner, J&K, Vikas Sharma, Joint Transport Commissioner, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, Deep-Raj, Pardeep Singh, Rashi Dutta, Assistant Transport Commissioner, J&K, Rakesh Gupta, Scientist E from NIC, ARTO Board of Inspection, Jammu and ARTO Udhampur.
