Transformer at Shant Nagar becomes death trap

JAMMU, Aug 29: The residents of Shant Nagar, adjoining Subash Nagar have criticised the Power Development Department (PDD)for its failure in barricading the power transformer in the locality which is almost lying on ground and is totally in a precarious condition.
The transformer has become a death trap as its wires are totally exposed and risky. The residents are perturbed especially for the safety of their children.
During the rainy season the apprehension is more and people fear worst. Today a buffalo came in contact of the live wire of the transformer and was electrocuted.
The residents said that it is not for first time, earlier too some cattle received electric shock and died. The people have taken up the issue with the concerned authorities many times but to no avail.
The authorities are so callous that a huge garbage dump lies adjacent to transformer where cattle and stray dogs often come to search food for them and some times they get electrocuted. Neither the Municipality takes responsibility of shifting the garbage dump from the area nor PDD takes steps to shift the transformer to some height so that no living being comes in its contact, said the residents of the area who have sought immediate intervention of higher authorities in the matter.
