RAJOURI, Feb 14: With the arrest of its kingpin, the police in Rajouri claimed to have busted a trans-border smugglers’ racket and seized 6 kilograms of heroin, worth over Rs 30 crores in the International market, near the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of district Rajouri today.

Official sources said that recovery was made from a forward location in Nowshera sector today on the disclosure of two drug -peddlers arrested by police some time back. The police party led by SHO Nowshera, Inspector Arjun Magotra, nabbed the kingpin of this racket and recovered a consignment of 6 kilograms (heroin) from his possession, which is said to have been pushed into this side by the Pakistani smugglers.
The sources revealed that the recovery is linked to FIR No. 178/2024 under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Nowshera, where 5.3 kilograms of heroin had previously been seized from two accused persons, Sajan Kumar @ Vicky and Subash Chander.
Following sustained efforts, Jaswinder Kumar @ Sonu, son of Late Karam Chand, a resident of Lamberi, in Nowshera, was arrested on February 5, 2025. He had been absconding for over a year in connection with another case registered under FIR No. 36/2024 at PS Nowshera.
During interrogation, Jaswinder Kumar revealed that he was smuggling heroin into India from Pakistan-based narcotic operatives with the help of his associates, Ashok Kumar and Sanjay Kumar, both residents of Sair, Bhawani, in Nowshera.
Acting on this information, police arrested both accused, who admitted to being in possession of smuggled heroin. Based on their disclosure, 12 packets containing 6 kilograms of heroin were recovered from his possession.
SSP Rajouri, Gaurav Sikarwar, reiterated the Rajouri Police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking networks. He emphasized that strict legal action will continue against those involved in narcotics smuggling and distribution. He said the investigation is going on to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the trans-border smugglers’ racket.
