Tral rally not to be allowed

Srinagar, Apr 16: Police today said that they will not allow separatist rally at Tral in South Kashmir and have put hardline Hurriyat Conference leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Masrat Alam under house arrest.
The Inspector General of Police, SJM Gillani told Excelsior that they will not allow separatist rally at Tral tomorrow. Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for rally at Tral against killing of militant commander’s brother.
Geelani was put under house arrest tonight and it was followed by Masrat Alam. Police came to residence of both the leaders and asked them not to move out of their houses.
In Tral there was shut down for the third straight day today during which clashes broke out following killing of brother of a militant commander and militant early this week.
Two youth – Khalid Muzzafar Wani and Younis Ganai – were killed by Army in the Kamla forests of Tral on Monday. One was a militant and another brother of militant commander Burhan.
The shops, commercial establishments and education institutes remained closed in the area while traffic was also off the roads.
Hundreds of police and paramilitary personal were deployed in the area. However, despite deployment of forces, protesters took to streets and pelted stones on police.
In the meantime, Police said they have identified the personnel who snatched rifle from a paramilitary officer on Monday in Tral town during clashes but he is absconding. The CRPF officer was suspended after the incident.
