Cricketers to feel IPL aroma in ‘PPCPL’ from tomorrow: IGP

JAMMU, Apr 16: The stage is all set for the cricketers of the State to feel IPL aroma in the first of its kind cricket tournament in the City of Temples-Police Public Cricket Premier League (PPCPL), beginning from April 18, at Science College Hostel Ground, here.
This was disclosed by Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, Danish Rana while addressing media persons at GOs mess, Police Lines, Gulshan Ground, here today.
The IGP was accompanied by DIG, Jammu, Shakeel Ahmed Beig, AIG Welfare PHQ, Rajeshwar Singh, SSP Rajnish Pran and Rajesh Gill, Chief Prosecuting Officer and organizing secretary of the League.
Mr Rana said that ten teams from Jammu division will be participating in the tournament, with the cricketers including Ranji Trophy players from both the regions to be part of this cricketing extravaganza.
He said that the teams will be grouped in two pools with five teams in each pool to play with each other in ‘all play all pattern’ in each pool, adding the teams which stand at the bottom in each pool after the league round, will be eliminated and the rest of the four teams will lock-horns with each other in the quarterfinals.
Mr Rana further said that attractive prizes will be presented to the winners, runners-up and the teams claiming third and fourth spots, besides individual prizes.
“The matches will be played on quality strips, with quality equipments including balls,” Mr Rana added.
He said that the objective of the tournament, apart from promoting sports in nooks and corners of the State, is to enhance Police-Public relationship and involve more and more youth in sports activities to help them shun drugs and not to derail from the mainstream, adding that such activities serve as a launching pad in bringing peace and harmony to the State through the messengers of peace ‘sportspersons’.
Mr Rana further said that elaborate boarding, lodging and allied arrangements for out-stationed players have been made by the organizers for smooth and successful conduct of the tournament.
