JAMMU, Mar 27: The Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD&GR Jammu, in collaboration with University of Jammu, is organizing three days Tier – II training program on the theme “Ground Water Management & Local issues” at JU.
The main objective of the training is to create general awareness of the water resources & local groundwater conditions, conservation practices and groundwater issues, and groundwater management.
The programme was inaugurated today by Professor Rajni Kant, Dean Research Studies, JU as the chief guest and he highlighted all aspects of water conservation stressing on the importance of groundwater management in the J&K. He emphasized on the measures to be taken not only by the Governmental agencies but by the stake holders as well to make the molecule of life available to all the living species on the planet.
He suggested that the awareness needs to be created amongst the masses, especially the young students of colleges and universities about the restoration of water bodies and to seek a secured system for ground water management and other resources of water.
Anurag Khanna, Regional Director CGWB North Western Himalayan Region Jammu, presided over the function. He presented the overall scenario of groundwater of the country with special emphasis on J&K resources. He also highlighted the need to conserve water resources and management aspects.
M L Angurala, Senior Scientist; Rayees Ahmad Pir, Scientist (Hydrogeologist), also spoke on the occasion.
The inaugural function was followed by the technical session where PowerPoint presentations were made by the experts.
Prof A S Jasrotia and Dr Ajay K Taloor were resource persons from the University of Jammu. A discussion session was also organized on the groundwater-related issues.
The participants include students and research scholars from the University of Jammu, Cluster University Jammu, Engineers from IR&FC & PHE Jammu and some students from other academic institutions.
