Training prog on management of ground water resources held

KATHUA, Oct 1: A very inspiring and stimulating 5 days Tier-II training program on “sustainable development & management of ground water resources” was organized by Central Ground Water Board, North Western Himalayan Region, Jammu ,here today.
The training was conducted with an objective to build capacity amongst scientists, engineers, agriculturist, foresters and other stake holders in water resources sector and also to provide platform to enhance and widen their analytic skills with the help of series of lectures and field demonstration of latest state of art equipment used in ground water exploration.
Around 30 stakeholders from various State government departments viz. PHE, Flood Control, Forest, Agriculture, Irrigation etc. participated in the training program.
The five days training program commenced with the very informative and educative lecture of Mrs Priya Kanwar, Scientist, on ‘Ground Water Scenario of the State’.  Dr. Uma Kapoor, Regional Director, gave a illustrative lecture on ‘Aquifer Mapping & Management Plans in Outer Plains of Jammu & Kathua districts (3,000 sq. km area)’. Kanwar P. Singh, Sc. B gave lecture on Geophysical Resistivity Surveys for ground water detection & its field demonstration.  Vinod Sharma, Scientist ‘D’, gave a lecture on – Drilling Techniques & Artificial Recharge of Ground Water. Other scientific & technical lectures delivered covers various topics like Aquifer Information & Management System, Borehole Geophysical Logging, ground water chemical analysis, Remote sensing, Aquifer parameter analysis.
