JAMMU, Dec 16: Two day training programme for Junior and Youth Red Cross (JYRC) Counselors organized by Indian Red Cross Society concluded.
In the programme, thirty teachers, as JYRC Counselors from Ganderbal and Udhampur districts participated.
The programme was inaugurated by Roma Wani, general secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K in presence of Secretary, Regional Red Cross Committee, Jammu, RC Puri.
Puri while addressing the participants stressed the need to strengthen the Red Cross Units at the district level. The training programme was organized with an objective to rejuvenate the Junior and Youth Red Cross movement in the State.
During the two day training programme, the participants were trained in various aspects to strengthen JYRC in the State which include establishing Red Cross units in schools and colleges, importance of developing IEC material, developing yearly plan of action, group management, maintenance of database of JYRC members, water sanitation and hygiene, handling small emergencies in educational institutions and suggested activities of JYRC.
The valedictory function was presided over by State Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, ID Soni, who while speaking, stated that working together is success. He stressed that efforts need to be put in to develop a teamwork culture.
Soni said that humanitarian service is full of challenges and enjoined upon the participants to prepare themselves and inculcate the spirit of humanitarian service and human values among the youth. He also added that teachers are the soul of the society who should explore new heights to avoid stagnation.
General secretary, IRCS, J&K, Roma Wani, who addressed the participants and spoke on the revival of the JYRC Movement in the State. She emphasized the role of Red Cross Counselors in bringing a desirable change in the Society.
Wani said that the Counselors must strive for giving direction to youth in serving humanity through volunteerism and should establish Red Cross units in schools and colleges. She stressed the need to utilize the Red Cross in educational institutions for some humanitarian cause.
To boost up the morale of the participants, various experience sharing sessions were organized.
Red Cross Volunteers Subash Chandra Bali and Dinesh Gupta who recently received Merit Certificate and Gold Medal respectively from President of India (President, Indian Red Cross Society) also interacted with the participants.
