LEH, July 12: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), New Delhi, organized Telecom Consumer Outreach Programme , here today.
Sanjeet Singh, Advisor (Consumer Affairs), TRAI New Delhi, presided over the programme, conducted to create awareness among the telecom consumers about their rights and privileges. Representatives of all telecom service providers of Leh area, Officers from Defence Services, consumers forums, teachers and NGOs participated in the programme.
G S. Panwar, Deputy Advisor Officer, TRAI, gave a brief overview of the programme and explained about the roles and functions of TRAI.
Sanjeet Singh, Advisor (Consumer Affairs), TRAI New Delhi, in his key note address, highlights the various measures taken by TRAI in recent past to protect the consumers interest and various consumer centric regulations, directions and orders issued by TRAI viz. Mobile Number Portability (MNP), Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC), Complaint Redressal Mechanism, VAS, Internet Data Usage etc.
Chandra Choodan, Joint Advisor, TRAI & Col Kapil Handa, Joint Advisor , TRAI New Delhi, also address the participants and informed about the proactive role played by TRAI in protection of consumer interest and various measures taken from time to time.
G S Panwar, Deputy Advisor (Consumer Affairs), TRAI New Delhi, made a presentation covering the various consumer issues of telecom sector.
After the deliberations, most of consumer expressed their dismay over erratic network problem of all service providers in Leh, especially poor Internet connectivity. LBA Youth president Rinchen Namgyal appealed the TRAI to hold such awareness at larger scale by involving all stakeholders to find a solution. Expressing his concern over non-participants of BSNL GM in the TRAI meeting today, he also added that BSNL is not paying attention to the consumer grievances.
Similarly ALTOA president Rinchen Namgyal also mentioned how tourism business suffers due to connectivity problems and tour operators have to go to Delhi or Jammu to operate their business due to Internet problems here. Ajuman Imamiya Youth Wing president, Advocate Muzaffar Hussain said that service providers violates the consumer right by providing poor service. Army representative also raised the issue of Airtel poor Mobile Number Portability services taking months.
Responding to consumer queries regarding Airtel providing data services in limited areas there by violating the rules of consumer TRAI official asked Airtel to improve services or do not make false promises.
Later, TRAI official asked the participants to form a Consumer Advocacy Group (CAG) in Leh to raise the Telecom related issues with TRAI.
