SRINAGAR : Traffic on the road to Muzzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK), has been restored after remaining suspended yesterday following landslides and washing away of a portion of road on Baramulla-Uri due to heavy rains recently.
Heavy rain during the past 24 hours has triggered landslides with a portion of the road being washed away between Baramulla-Uri, official sources said.
They said traffic was suspended on the road with the result a large number of vehicles, including those carrying passengers got stranded at Uri and Baramulla.
Later, authorities pressed already put into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslide and repair the damaged portion of this strategically important road to border town.
Traffic was put through after the landslides were removed and damaged portion of the road was rebuild temporarily.
Uri sector witnessed landslides recently and a number of families were rescued to safer places.
Landslides on other side of the Line of Control (LoC) forced cancellation of Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, on March 15. However, the weekly bus run resumed on March 22. (AGENCIES)
