Traffic resumes on Kashmir, Leh highways, Mughal road after 2 days

SRINAGAR:  Traffic was resumed on the Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh national highways besides historic Mughal road after remaining suspended for two days due to security reasons.

Traffic on these roads was suspended as a precautionary measure due to tense situation in the Kashmir valley following two-day strike on Sunday and Monday and ‘Tral Chalo’ called by separatists yesterday in protest against the killing of Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, successor of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani, and another militant in an encounter at Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Saturday.

Traffic on the highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was resumed this morning, a traffic police official said.

However, large number of passengers at Jammu bus stand alleged that they were stranded there for the past four days as authorities were allowing only Srinagar to Jammu vehicle.

Similarly, traffic on historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region has also been  resumed. However, only one-way traffic will continue to ply on the road and today, vehicles will ply from Rajouri-Poonch to Shopian.
