JAMMU, May 11: The traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was restored today and over 3500 stranded vehicles were cleared for Kashmir by late this evening.
IG Traffic, J&K Alok Kumar told the Excelsior that landslides in Digdol area of Ramban which blocked highway last evening, were cleared at around 11 am today and the movement of stranded vehicles towards Kashmir was started. He said by late this evening, about nearly 3500 vehicles including oil tankers, were cleared for Kashmir while nearly 4000 more vehicles stranded in Udhampur, Dhar Road and Nagrota (Jammu) area will be cleared tomorrow.
The IG Traffic said that there will be no restrictions on civilian vehicles’ movement tomorrow on the highway as the movement of Army and Paramilitary forces convoy has been deferred on this Sunday in view of road blockade for couple of days. Kumar said today nearly 2500 stranded vehicles in Kashmir including 1800 trucks were sent to Jammu via Mughal Road. The movement of vehicles from Kashmir to Jammu via Ramban will be allowed on Monday, if the road remained clear, the IG added.
