Traffic remains suspended on highway for 9 hrs

RAMBAN, Oct 18: The traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained suspended for about nine hours after land slides at Digdol in Ramban area during early hours today.
Official sources said that there was no much rain in the area during last night but suddenly the land slides at Digdol blocked the highway, leading to suspension of movement of vehicles at around 4 am. A large number of trucks and other vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the blockade on this highway. A massive traffic jam was also created, inviting trouble for the cops and commuters.

The highway could be restored at around 1.15 pm. The movement of vehicles was then started but due to slow movement of vehicles, long traffic jam was created in Ramban town and some other areas on this highway. Mehar, near Chenab bridge in Ramban area has become yet another problematic area where land slides and shooting stones, due to road widening activity has become routine. This has created headache for the free movement of vehicles.
